Albergo Moderno is a family-run 2-star hotel on Via Vincenzo Civitali, in the San Concordio district just outside Lucca's city walls. It occupies a 19th-century Art Nouveau (Liberty-style) building about 150–200 metres from the railway station: the walls are five minutes away on foot, and the cathedral and historic centre about ten.
It makes a convenient base for anyone arriving by train who wants to explore Lucca on foot, perhaps with day trips to Pisa, Florence or Viareggio. The five room types range from single to triple, and all have a private bathroom, air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a minibar, a safe, a desk and parquet floors with light wood furniture.
Breakfast is a continental and Italian buffet, served in the courtyard in summer, and there is also a terrace with outdoor furniture. Wi-Fi is free, rooms are cleaned daily and luggage storage helps if you arrive early or leave late. The hotel has no private parking and no lift.
