Albergo Moderno is at Via Vincenzo Civitali 38, in the San Concordio district, on the south side of the railway and just outside Lucca's city walls. The street is named after Vincenzo Civitali, a 16th-century Lucchese sculptor and architect who also worked on the walls. The Baluardo Santa Maria is about 250 metres away, Piazza Napoleone 450 metres and the cathedral around ten minutes on foot.
Via Vincenzo Civitali 38, 55100 Lucca, Italia
The station is about 300 metres on foot (3 minutes), but the main building is on Piazza Ricasoli, on the other side of the tracks: a pedestrian underpass links the square with San Concordio, and some guests recommend the rear exit of the station to avoid the longer flights of stairs.
From Pisa airport, 17 km away, the PisaMover reaches Pisa Centrale in a few minutes, and regional trains continue to Lucca in 25 to 40 minutes; from Florence Santa Maria Novella, direct trains take about an hour and a half. By car, the A11 Lucca Est exit is 1.5 km away: the hotel has no parking, but there is a large public car park right in front, which charges during the day.

From the station, the underpass opened in 2025 leads to the walls: 4.2 km of ramparts to walk along, open to everyone. Inside, the Cathedral of San Martino holds the Volto Santo in Matteo Civitali's small temple and the tomb of Ilaria del Carretto by Jacopo della Quercia; a little further on are San Michele in Foro, the Guinigi Tower with holm oaks on top, and Piazza dell'Anfiteatro.
By train, Viareggio is under half an hour away and Castelnuovo di Garfagnana about an hour. The most pleasant months are May and September; every 13 September the Luminara di Santa Croce procession winds through the candlelit centre.
